Client Success
City of Mesa, Arizona – Welcome!

The City of Mesa, Arizona, the latest addition to the AMS Advantage client community, was recently honored with an award from Public Technology Institute (PTI) for their Electronic Patient Care Records (ePCR) System. The City of Mesa Fire Department implemented a cloud-based Electronic Patient Care Records system that allows for real-time input of patient data at an incident scene. Rather than filling out paper forms, firefighters and paramedics input the data into “ruggedized” laptops at the scene. Patient information is instantly uploaded to a secure site and shared with destination hospitals.
The City of Mesa is the third largest City in the state of Arizona, and the 38th largest nationwide, with approximately 467,000 residents covering 133 square miles. The City employs approximately 3,600 full time employees and peaks at close to 4,000 total employees with seasonal hiring. The City is the Spring Training home of the Chicago Cubs, and major employers such as Boeing call it home and the City welcomes winter visitors from around the globe.
Valerie McBrien, ITD Project Manager, joined the CityEdge project just over two years ago. Prior to joining the City, Valerie worked for a network integration consultancy and had the opportunity to work on a variety of technology projects with a diverse client base. Valerie, who holds a PMP certification, joined us for an update on the City’s project to implement AMS Advantage ERP.
I understand you are a native of Arizona?
Yes, and this is a rare phenomenon for someone in my age group. A lot has changed. I can tell stories of the days when a single freeway ran through the metro area and of sheep moving from field to field on what are now major roads. How what is today a sprawling bedroom community used to be our late night playground while in high school. And I am not really that old!
Why did the City choose CGI and AMS Advantage ERP?
The City of Mesa felt strongly that it needed an ERP solution that met the unique needs of municipal government. The City wanted a solution that could provide a broad spectrum of functionality: financials, budget and human resources. This would allow us to achieve many of our objectives, including real-time access to data and having ‘one version of the truth’. Therefore, we chose a solution that met our current needs and provided robust functionality and scalability that the City will require in the years to come.
What is the City’s implementation approach?
The City’s project includes four major phases: Performance Budgeting and Management, Financials, Procurement, and Timekeeping, Human Resource Management and Payroll, and Employee Self Service and Learning Management.
What is the City working on now?
Performance Budgeting and Management kicked off in January 2011 and has now moved into prototyping activities. Financial core team training started on April 4th, and Human Resource Management and Payroll will kick off on July 11th.
