Energy management and smart utilities

Smarter, more affordable energy management

Leading energy and utility companies are on the move to drive performance and savings through smarter, more affordable energy management, and CGI is working with them to achieve their goals. We’re helping clients to test and roll out smart meter, smart grid and other energy management solutions to improve operations and service delivery, while reducing overall energy consumption and spend.

CGI offers a unique combination of smart utilities, systems integration and sustainability expertise that, combined with our IP solutions, enables clients to gain a competitive advantage through effective energy management.

Our services and solutions include the following:

  • Smart grid pilots: We provide database applications that aggregate and analyze smart meter and network performance data based on trial scenarios and, in turn, model cost and carbon benefits.
  • Smart homes and domestic energy management: We monitor and manage the energy demands of smart home communities equipped with solar PV, smart metering, intelligent appliances, and electric vehicle charging. We also help consumers understand and reduce their energy consumption.
  • Business energy efficiency: We offer a solution that displays smart meter data, allowing businesses to analyze and benchmark consumption and identify savings opportunities.
  • Renewables Management System (RMS): This system monitors and controls renewable generation to maximize output and manage shutdown incidents for maintenance, extreme weather and grid constraints. It’s a scalable, green energy platform that supports the business needs of operators with a large portfolio of wind energy production.
  • Smart metering: Our smart metering solutions manage two-way communications with meters to collect consumption data and update firmware and tariffs.

The value we deliver

CGI’s smart energy management services and solutions deliver results, including the following:

  • Household energy consumption savings of up to 20 percent through smart home and domestic energy management.
  • Reduced reinforcement costs and outages and improved customer retention for energy suppliers through distribution network management.
