CGI Group Inc. (NYSE: GIB; TSX: GIB.A), a leading provider of information technology and business process services, today announced that Dr. James Peake, CGI Senior Vice-President and CGI Federal Board Member, was honored with the American Hero Award from the Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation (PenFed) during the organization’s Night of Heroes Gala yesterday.

Now in its seventh year, the Night of Heroes Gala recognizes wounded military heroes and those within the medical community who provide the continuum of care from the battlefield to the home front.

“Jim is a special American and one of our nation’s finest public servants,” said Kate Kohler, Chief Operating Officer at PenFed. “He represents the unique personification of the continuum of care, from serving in Vietnam with valor as a Soldier, to serving in the military as a surgeon and in government as an advocate for veterans.”

Dr. Peake is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and served in the U.S. Army for 38 years, including service as a general surgeon, cardiac surgeon, and commander of several organizations, culminating in his appointment as U.S. Army Surgeon General. Prior to joining CGI, Dr. Peake served as the Secretary of Veterans Affairs where he was the principal advocate for veterans in the U.S., responsible for a nationwide system of health care services, benefits programs, and national cemeteries for America’s veterans and dependents. Currently, Dr. Peake leads strategy for CGI’s cross-industry U.S. health business.
