CGI community mobilizes to promote a safe, healthy environment for all
Every spring, communities across the globe celebrate Earth Hour, Earth Day and Earth Month to promote the importance of protecting the environment. The CGI community, as part of our CSR commitment, joins in these celebrations each year, and in 2012, organized a wide variety of activities to get us thinking about the environment and what each of us can do to help protect it.

Two CGI professionals in Halifax, Nova Scotia, both of whom are environmentally conscious in their personal lives, decided to get together to incorporate more “green” practices in the workplace. They formed a “Green Team” within CGI’s Atlantic Canada business unit (ABU), and, today, that team has grown to include CGI professionals in four offices across three provinces, including Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

In 2011, CGI’s high employee participation rate earned it a Payroll Giving Quality Mark Gold Award.In 1987, the UK government set up Payroll Giving—a program that allows employees to donate a certain amount of their pre-tax pay each month to charity. Employees are not only able to choose how much to give but also which charities they want to support.
The program has been a huge success, raising more than £114,000,000 in the past year alone from the participation of 720,000 employees and providing a steady stream of income for a wide range of charities.

CGI supports the mission and work of The Fire House Gallery, a non-profit art gallery.In 2005, CGI Executive Consultant Helen Aikman and CGI Director Kathleen Galvin combined their business savvy and community commitment to open a non–profit art gallery in an old historic fire station in the rural Georgia town of Louisville (population 2,700).
Since then, The Fire House Gallery has hosted more than 75 professional art exhibitions and has organized a wide range of community programs, particularly for students of local schools, colleges and universities. Full story...
...CGI volunteers take part in annual snowshoe race to benefit the environment
CGI 2012 Tuques Bleues volunteersEvery February, an evening snowshoe race is held on Mount Royal in the heart of Montreal to help preserve the mountain, a treasured landmark and popular recreation site. For the past 15 years, the event has been organized by charity organization Les Amis de la montagne, and CGI members have taken an active role in supporting the charity’s work.
Known as the Tuques Bleues Celebration, the race keeps a tradition alive that dates back to the first half of the 19th Century. Back then, snowshoers would gather to ascend Mount Royal at dusk, ending the evening with a lively banquet at the top. Full story...
