Oakland County Schools uses CGI Advantage® and a shared services model to control costs and meet the needs of a growing number of Michigan school districts.

The Challenge

In the early 1990s Oakland County Schools implemented CGI Advantage ERP as a centralized, regional service agency. While Oakland could deliver support services to school personnel, the mainframe environment still required each local school district to maintain an individual application and data files within its region. In addition, the state maintained a large number of agency-specific feeder systems, contributing to a high degree of redundant data entry, slow processing time and lack of timely information.

Through modernization, Oakland Schools would consolidate systems and streamline processes, continuing their efforts for greater efficiency and controlled costs.

How CGI Helped

Together Oakland Schools and CGI modernized the infrastructure, leveraging the Oakland Network for Education (ONE) fiber network, enabling access to other districts via secure internet connection. Using out-of-the-box functionality they streamlined business processes, consolidated interfaces, centralized configuration, hardware and software support.

Results

Oakland County Schools upgraded its CGI Advantage ERP Financial Management and HRM solution, including Performance Budgeting and CGI infoAdvantage, on time and on budget. Six Michigan districts now utilize Oakland's shared service system, each saving an average of $21,500 annually, and more districts plan to join. Among the numerous benefits the districts enjoy are:
